Cemal Araalan has represented and advised Turkish and foreign companies in complex legal disputes (including litigation before Turkish courts and international arbitration) for more than 15 years. He has worked as a director and partner in Turkey’s leading law firms and has provided strategic legal consultancy to many foreign and local clients in a wide range of legal matters, particularly in the emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, arbitration, competition, energy, construction, gaming and technology sectors.
His experience in legal consultancy and compliance includes all compliance processes of crypto asset exchanges and e-commerce companies from the establishment stage, legal consultancy processes for software companies, complex IT and trademark law disputes, liability lawsuits against board members, This includes arbitration proceedings such as ICC and ICSID arising out of international trade law, representation of clients in criminal law in terms of offences caused by white and blue collar employees in the workplace, and current IT law issues (data protection law, blockchain and financial technology projects, internet law, cyber security).
Cemal Araalan holds two master’s degrees in American Commercial Law from Kent College-Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and IT Law from Istanbul Bilgi University. He completed his second master’s degree with his master’s thesis on “Cyber Security in Electronic Payment Systems”. He currently has refereed articles in the field of information and technology law and continues his PhD studies in Private Law at MEF University.
Cemal Araalan is a member of different non-governmental organisations on IT Law, including the Istanbul Bar Association’s Information Technology Law Commission, Blockchain Turkey Platform, Turkish Informatics Association, Informatics and Technology Association, Artificial Intelligence and Technology Association. He contributes as a speaker in different seminars and events on different information and technology law issues such as cyber security, blockchain, artificial intelligence and personal data protection. He is also the founder of ARC Law Office and the founder and vision leader of Avukatweb which is a new startup in the field of legaltech and Fintelogy which is a social awareness platform in the field of financial technology.
